Lord Walney was appointed by Boris Johnson to advise the government on political violence and disruption and still holds his post today, making recommendations on protest law. His 2024 report urged the government to focus their attention on what he calls the “extreme left” – mostly people campaigning on the climate crisis and protesting for Palestine.
But while he was writing his report, Walney was taking money from lobbying organisations whose clients include oil and gas companies and those selling weapons to Israel.
We’ve sent a dossier of evidence to the Home Office and the House of Lords showing what we believe to be clear conflicts of interest. The Home Office say his role is currently under review, so keep the pressure up and ask your MP to contact the Home Office to make sure Walney is removed from office and investigated for potentially breaking the rules.
