A tide of huge donations has flooded into parliament, as billionaires try to game the system in their favour. With enough money, the mega-rich may gain an unrivaled level of access to MPs – and leave the average voter shut out.
This is a massive problem across politics, but Nigel Farage has taken it to the next level – last year, more than 60% of donations to Reform came just from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne.
We are backing an amendment by Stella Creasy calling for an annual cap on political donations that will reduce to £100,000 in its second year. If passed, it has a real chance of blocking the corporations and mega-rich who might try to pull the strings of our politicians.
We have to act if we want to make the cap a reality.
