The BBC is in shock after rightwing groups have claimed the broadcaster is against Donald Trump and “pro-trans”. But the reality is very different.
A recent YouGov survey found that 70% of trans people think BBC News is “hostile” when it reports on trans issues. And they’re right.
Even the BBC admits that it has breached standards on accuracy and impartiality time and time again with sensational news stories and presenters who blurt out anti-trans views.
And when we offered the BBC an exclusive on data showing how trans people in Britain are living in fear and have lost faith in politicians, judges, the police, and the media, it didn’t even dare to cover it.
This silence is not impartiality – it’s a failure from the UK’s biggest media organisation. And with trans people under attack as never before, this failure is doubly dangerous.
The BBC was founded to “provide impartial news”. It must live up to that duty and stop its attack on trans people.
